Now, some progress photos. The art sits before me, my printout of "The Symphony" is at hand, and there is a glass of fine whiskey to aid me.
In order to get an idea of how much room I would need for the text, I quickly and loosely pencilled it in. I have a specific idea of how I want the words to look, and this is helping me pin that down.
From the very beginning, I knew I wanted the words to be lettered in white against a black background. An inverse of the White Whale, really, both in terms of contrast and shape. Here is the beginning of that shape, in lovely, thick, black acrylic paint.
Finally, the black takes shape. Soon, the text will fill this midnight bubble. I'm very pleased with how this is looking.
